Once you step into Nordiska museet, you become an explorer of life in the Nordic region in different eras. Get ready for a journey through time!
Suggestions for your visit
1 enjoyable hour together, three ways:
- Book a slot in the Children’s Playhouse and experience life on a farm in the 1890s (for children aged 5 and above, 45 minutes).
- Solve a mystery together in ‘Mission: The Marzipan Thief’ (approximately 45 minutes).
- Take on the challenge and follow the lapdog Sickis in ‘Mission: Arctic’ through the iceberg in the Great Hall.
2 hours with children aged 5 and above:
- Book a slot in the Playhouse and experience life on a farm in the 1890s (45 minutes). Or solve the mystery in ‘Mission: The Marzipan Thief.’ Enjoy a coffee or have lunch in the restaurant.
2 hours with children aged 8 and above:
- Book a slot in the Time Vault and take a journey through time (45-90 minutes). Or complete ‘Mission: Arctic’ through the iceberg in the Great Hall. Enjoy a coffee or have lunch in the restaurant.
Children aged 5 and above:
- Book a slot in the Children’s Playhouse (45 minutes) and experience life on a farm in the 1890s.
- Enjoy a coffee or have lunch in the restaurant.
- Solve the mystery in ‘Mission: The Marzipan Thief.’
- Feeling energetic? Take on ‘Mission: The Arctic’ through the iceberg in the Great Hall.
Children aged 8 and above:
- Book a slot in the Time Vault (45-90 minutes) and take a journey through time.
- Enjoy a coffee or have lunch in the restaurant.
- Conclude with ‘Mission: The Arctic’ through the iceberg in the Great Hall, or ‘Mission: The Marzipan Thief.’
Children aged 13 and above:
- The interactive experience in the Time Vault is suitable for everyone from 8 years old, including adults and teenagers.
- The exhibitions Nordic Life, ‘Arctic – as the ice melts,’ ‘Traditions,’ and ‘Table settings‘ all have slightly longer audio guide tracks suitable for teenagers as well.
Mission: The Marzipan Thief
A precious marzipan figurine has disappeared from the museum. Who took it? Follow the clues through the museum and help solve the mystery.
Who: Children in the company of an adult.
How: Our staff will provide a map.

Mission: The Arctic
Would you be able to survive in the Arctic? Take your family on a journey through the iceberg in the exhibition The Arctic – While the ice is melting and meet people who will tell you more about life in the northernmost places on the planet.
You will have a map to guide you, along with help from Sickis the dog. A great activity for anyone curious, wanting to learn Arctic lifehacks.
Who: Children in the company of an adult.
How: Our staff will provide the map.

The Children’s Playhouse
Travel back to the 1890s, and life on a farm. Use imagination and play to explore life without mobile phones, running water, or electricity. Carry out your shores on the farm, tend the wooden animals and go to the village shop. The gårdstomte, the gnome and guardian spirit of the farm, will keep a watchful eye on your work.
Who: Children, 5 years and up, in the company of an adult.
When: Saturdays and Sundays.
How: Buy tickets with a 45-minute time slot.
Language: Brief informative texts in English will offer tips and guidance.
The Time Vault
In the deepest underground vaults of the museum, there is a magical place – the Time Vault. Step through the secret portal to find yourself in the children’s very own history! Discover everyday life in the 1880’s, 1940’s or 1980’s.The Time Vault is an interactive experience for children aged 8 years and up.
Please note: inside the Time Vault, English texts are limited. Please ask our staff about your options for visiting the Time Vault.
Who: Children from 8 years up, in the company of an adult.
How: Buy tickets with at 90-minute time slot.
Language: Swedish. Some sections offer texts in English.

For adults and older children, the audio guide is a fun and informative way to discover the highlights of the museum. You can download the Audio guide to your phone.
